Our Story

La Leis Flowers was the result of a dream. In 2004 I had a dream about creating flower accessories with magnetic posts and I immediately went to work on creating them.

Flower pins have been worn for centuries but the magnetic post provided a solution. My product means that women no longer have to worry about pin pricks, holes in clothing (especially silk blouses) or bent, rusty pins.

La Leis Flowers provides versatility. Women can now wear their floral accessory on their clothing, handbags, hats, scarves, in their hair or in any way they envision.

Adding La Leis Flowers to an outfit brings life and newness to clothing; elevates the look; adds a splash of color and boosts your mood.

My love of fashion started at an early age in my homeland of Guyana, South America. I remember making clothing for my dolls and paying close attention to what people around me wore. I saw the impact that “dressing up” had on the psyche of my family and loved ones. I knew that I wanted to influence the way people saw themselves and felt about the way they looked. While my introduction to style was curated by generations of fashionable women in my family, it was further solidified while watching CNN's Styles by Elsa Klensch on Saturday mornings.

I started La Leis Flowers as a stay-at-home mom. I needed my own source of income and wanted to show my daughters what it meant to be a business woman.  Three weeks after I woke up with the dream of a magnetic floral badge, I became a vendor. The first time I sold my creation was at a Garden Festival in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, and I used my daughters’ cash register and they served as my assistants. After that day I spent my Saturdays going to boutiques to show them my products,  and some agreed to carrythem in their stores. I also sought out opportunities to vend as a way to promote my flowers.

While I had some success and women loved my floral accessory, it became increasingly difficult to continue the business without funding, a marketing strategy and consistent suppliers.  Thus, I had to put my dreams on hold.

However, it was during the pandemic that I decided to revisit my dream.  I never lost the motivation to create beautiful floral accessories that would change the way people see themselves; that would give them confidence and help them feel beautiful. I didn’t want to abandon the dream that introduced my children to a tenacious and entrepreneurial mom.
